Abstract

Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is an indicator of the quality of life of a population in the world, especially children's health. Low Birth Weight (LBW) and especially premature are the main causes of infant death. Efforts to maintain the health of infants and children are not only the responsibility of parents but also the community and the government with the goal of one of which is to reduce IMR. Although IMR in Cilacap Regency is still below the target or does not exceed the MDGs, there are still 143 infant mortality cases found in Cilacap District which consist of 105 neonatal deaths and 38 postneonatal deaths from 28,481 live births. Therefore, the 2017 IMR of Cilacap Regency is 5 per 1,000 live births. The research aims to determine the relationship of birth weight with infant mortality. The research method uses cross-sectional design with total sampling technique using secondary data recorded incomplete medical records with inclusion criteria of infants aged 0-12 months who experienced death in Cilacap Regional Hospital during 2016-2018 as many as 170 samples. Furthermore, data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The results of the analysis showed that in Cilacap Regional Hospital in 2016-2018 most of them were 153 (90%) cases of deaths occurred in neonatal deaths. LBW experienced 105 neonatal deaths with chi-square x2 analysis results of 5.129. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between birth weight and infant mortality.
