Abstract

Background There are some learning methodologies that can be implemented in teaching, one of which is conventional. The lecturers deliver the material while the students are listening only. However, Gallery of Learning provides different things, students should be active and critical to collect the material which are going to be used. Both methods were implemented in Basic Midwifery Skill Subject. The subject was tutorial and lab work. The lecturer started to give the material and continued with laboratory work. Both of the methods would be compared to see the difference learning achievement on the subject.


Aims to compare Gallery of Learning and Conventional methods on basic midwifery skill subject toward learning achievement of midwifery students Health Science Faculty (FIKES) UMP.


Method Experimental quasy experiment through pre and post-test design. The population were the second semester students, A and B classes consisted of 66 sttudents of Midwifery DIII students FIKES UMP. The data analysis was done through analyzing 2 variables with Wilcoxon statistic test.


Findings Based on the implementation of gallery of learning active method, it was obtained z -2.717 with p value was 0,007 and conventional method score was z -2,170 with p value was 0,030. It proved that p value on the class with gallery of learning active method provided higher significance.


Conclusion It can be drawn that gallery of learning active method was more effective than conventional method viewed from the students’ learning achievement on Basic Midwifery Skill.
